While walking back to the AlbaNova University Center from the Nobel lectures in Physics by Andre Geim and Konstantin Novoselov in Aula Magna at the main Stockholm Univerity Campus on December 8th a spectacular Sun halo phenomenon was seen. It was a chilly morning with several degrees below 0C and the Sun is always very low this season at our latitude. Not only two clear Sun dogs at each side was seen but also a 22 degree arc. Pehaps not a very uncommon phenomena winter time when there are ice crystals in the atmosphere but this was exceptionally beautiful. I only had my mobile camera and to be able to take photos I tried to hide the Sun behind the cupola of AlbaNova and also the Sun dogs are partly hidden to show the nice half-circle. It was still very bright and the exposure time became 1/8192 seconds! |
