Transportation
To and from
the airport
There are a number of airports in the wider Stockholm area, including
Arlanda (the largest airport), Skavsta, Västerås and Bromma.
·
There are regular coach services between the airports and
Stockholm central station.
·
There is also a fast train service called Arlanda Express, which runs
between Arlanda and the central station in Stockholm.
·
The local travel service in Stockholm, SL,
also runs travel services to and from some of the airports.
·
Taxis are generally available outside of the airport building, or they can
be booked in advance. Arrange a price with the driver in advance. The cost is
usually 500-600 SEK for a ride to the city centre thought it can be more
depending on the time of day/night.
·
Never take a taxi in Stockholm
without having first arranged the price. The market is unregulated and it is
not unknown for unsuspecting travelers to pay 100Euro for a short (10km)
journey !
Public transport
within Stockholm
Stockholm has an excellent
integrated public transport system. Stockholm city tickets (SL) are valid on
the bus, subway, commuter trains, the tram line, and the intra-city ferry.
You can purchase tickets at local newsagents, eg Pressbyrån, or at station ticket machines. You can also
purchase tickets with the SL app. You
cannot buy tickets onboard the buses. Also, not all stations have ticket
machines so if you’re in Stockholm it is recommended to purchase an SL Access
card from Pressbyrån and preload it with tickets.
A single journey ticket will
cost from 31 SEK, though you can add 100-1000 SEK to your SL card. A week long
pass costs 325 SEK. If you’re a student or senior, you can purchase your
tickets at a reduced price at an SL Center at select stations.

planner are available at https://sl.se/en/ .
